Texas Tech University Press announces inaugural winner of Lou Halsell Rodenberger Prize in Texas History and Literature
LUBBOCK -- Dr. Kay Goldman of Texas A&M University is the first winner of the Lou Halsell Rodenberger Prize in Texas History and Literature, a publication award establishe dni 2008 to honor the memory of the late Dr. Rodenberger of Abilene, a professor of English at McMurry University.
Goldman's manuscript, "Designing Women, Texas Style: The Frankfurt Sisters of Dallas and Page Boy Maternity," will be published by Texas Tech University Press in spring 2013.
Goldman tells the story of three dynamic Texas sisters who revolutionized maternity fashion. Through their combined engineering, business, and PR genius, they launched in Depression-era Dallas a small firm that would become the internationally known Page Boy Maternity Inc., which thrived until the end of the century.
A 2003 graduate of Texas A&M University, Kay Goldman entered the Department of History as a Ph.D. student to study under Harold Livesay. Focusing on the Jews of Texas, her dissertation explored the relationship of Jewish businessmen within the surrounding culture. She has also done research on The National Council of Jewish Women in Louisiana and Texas.
The Rodenberger Prize provides for a $1,000 award and publication of the best manuscript on or by a woman whose writing illuminates Texas history, culture, and letters, especially in West Texas and the Texas Border Region.
