LaShara J. Nieland and Willa F. Finley, co-authors of Lone Star Wildflowers: A Guide to Texas Flowering Plants (Texas Tech University Press, 2009), will sign copies of their book as part of Lady Bird Johnson Tribute Day at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, 4801 La Crosse Ave., Austin, Texas, Sun., Jul. 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission to the Center is free that day, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. About the book: Each spring throughout the celebrated Hill Country and well beyond, locals and visitors revel in the color palettes and variety of the more than 5,000 species of Texas wildflowers. From the Panhandle canyonlands to the islands of South Texas, from the eastern Pineywoods to the farthest reaches of the arid Trans-Pecos, some 5,000 species dot Texas’s 268,820 square miles. Now Lone Star Wildflowers offers easy identification through color grouping and a wealth of insight.
About the authors: Nieland and Finley, Texas natives who have worked together on wildflower research and school presentations since their college days at Abilene Christian University, developed their easy-to-follow guidebook after years of experience in teaching secondary school science students (and their parents!) how to recognize and appreciate Texas wildflower species. They observed that flower enthusiasts could most easily identify flowers by color groupings. More information about Lone Star Wildflowers is available at www.lonestarwildflowers.net. Publicity materials, including hi-res cover image and author headshot, are available at http://www.ttup.ttu.edu/Book%20Pages/9780896726444.html
